Hi ....Happy 'Royal Oak Day'! What, you didn't know that today, the 29th May, was 'crowned' as Royal Oak Day (or Oak Apple Day) by Charles II? The date celebrates the escape and restoration of the king. After his exile, Charles entered London on the 29th May 1660, his birthday. At some Oxford and Cambridge halls, as well as our pub, a toast is still drunk to celebrate today! What's been going on? Well, our first news picture was taken at our visit to Hereford Races for the Wye Valley Brewery sponsored day. Our photo shows Eira with Robin Maydew and Jim Bright ~ but no-one is watching the race ~ which probably explains our form on the day :-( Despite showery mumurings the afternoon kept dry and reasonably bright. Our next two pictures are of our 'Folk in the Oak' evening at the start of this month. Many thanks to John Shepherd, Laura Shepherd, Ed & Claire Drury plus numerous friends for an excellent evening of music. Plenty of dancing later on and a good time was had by all ~ both those that could find their feet and those that couldn't! This weekend we're pleased to welcome the Ashdown Forest Morris Men, who will be dancing at the pub on Saturday night at 7:30pm. Also, this Sunday, don't miss the Cardington Gardens Open Day where you can visit fifteen local gardens starting at the Church or Village Hall. Commencing this Sunday we'll be providing a Sunday Evening Meals Service between the pub's opening at 7pm until 9pm ~ the perfect repose after your day in the gardens? On the 18th June we'll be holding our fantastic Italian Food Specials Night - delicious, home cooked, Italian style food ~ see below for details ~ bellisimo! Looking further ahead, to the 4th and 5th of July, it's the Church Stretton Ale Trail! Nine great, local pubs serving the best in real ale, with transport laid on so that you can leave the car at home. Enjoy the ale, enjoy the ambience and enjoy hearing Rob Chapman perform live at 'The Oak' on Saturday evening the 5th July. For more details on 'The Ale Trail' - click here. We're expecting a busy month ~ lots to look forward to ~ and we both hope you see you soon, down at 'The Royal Oak'. .... Steve & Eira |

Prize Draw On Bank Holiday Monday the 26th May, Royal Oak waitress Sophie Major drew a name out of our bowl watched by Sophie Foster. Last month's lucky winners are Jan & John Beesley. Congratulations both, your bottle of Taylor's First Estate Reserve Port awaits your collection from the bar! Our second photo shows Evan Grant and family, calling in at 'The Oak' to collect their prize of two bottles of wine that they won in last April's competition. Commiserations everyone else - but why not drop your details in again to be entered into this months draw. We draw every month from those names left in the bowl on the bar during the period since the last draw, so don't forget to re-enter your name on your next visit to 'The Oak'. This month's prize is a case of Budweiser Beer. Make sure you're in it to win it! | ||||||||||||||||||||||
