Jade on St Patricks Day

Jade on St. Patrick's Day

Midnight on Mothering Sunday

Midnight on Mothering Sunday

Hi ....

It's so nice that the lighter nights are here again and the signs of spring are well and truly with us; lambs in the fields and the glorious spread of daffodils in the verges. We're looking forward to Easter next weekend, and will be having music here on Saturday night (7th) with the return of The Melomanics Duo. On Easter Sunday, in addition to our usual Sunday Menu and selection of 'Specials', the kids can join in our Easter Egg Hunt around the pub (kids from four to eighty four that is!). We're also open for lunch on Easter Monday.

We had a great night on our St. Patrick's Day Party - if you want to see what people were up to (well, those photos that were suitable for publication) then click here. Sporting barmaid Jade Horler raised £115 for Breast Cancer Research, in a dare to strip off her top and just wear her skimpy St. Patrick's Day waistcoat! But whilst we enjoyed St. Patrick's Day we're planning bigger and better for our own St. George's Day! On St. George's Eve (22nd) we're offering a special priced English Beef Dinner in the evening at £5.95, followed by our 'All Things English' Quiz. On the following Saturday (28th) we're having our 'Best of English' Party, see below for further details. Other forthcoming events include our Curry Night on Wednesday the 18th and our trip to Hereford Races on Thursday the 3rd. May.

Our second news photo (left) was taken at midnight on Mothering Sunday, and shows that evening's fall of snow on the Oak Tree opposite the pub. You can just see the daffodils in bloom under the tree. Click on the picture to see a larger image. How often would you expect to see a scene like this on Mothering Sunday!

Enough about snow!! We're looking forward to a great Spring and Summer - and hope to see you soon, down at 'The Royal Oak'.

Prize Draw

On Sunday the 1st April (no joke!), Aubrey Farquhar drew a name out of our bowl, watched by John McMillan, Robin and Chris Maydew (click on the photo to see the whole crew!). March's lucky winner was Anna Bright. Congratulations Anna, your port awaits your collection from the bar.

Our second photo shows February's winner Tracy Boardman, when she called in with husband Daz (also a previous winner) to collect her port. Well done Tracy, we hope that you enjoy the port!

Commiserations everyone else - but why not drop your details in again to be entered into this months draw. We draw every month from those names left in the bowl on the bar during the period since the last draw, so don't forget to re-enter your name on your next visit to 'The Oak'. April's prize will be for two bottles of Hardy's wine a 2003 VR Shiraz and a Nottage Hill Chardonnay.

Make sure you're in it to win it!!
