Hi ....

Hello, and welcome to the 'Royal Oak' Newsletter. We hope the content will be seasonal, if not the weather that we've been experiencing :-( At least the troughs and hanging baskets don't need so much watering (from us)!!

Our first news photo captures the visit of The Ashdown Forest Morris Men ~ who not only entertained us with their dancing at the end of last month ~ but finished off the evening with an impromptu folk session and singsong. Our second photo is a reminder of our current Stella Artois promotion ~ collect tokens for a T-shirt, lovingly modelled here by Dave Kelly-Durrant, or a polo-shirt. We still have a few shirts left, the ideal summers outfit for the discerning Stella drinker!

Our third photo gives you a flavour of what was available on our Italian Specials evening. Mama mia - or should we say 'D'oh', as this week we're celebrating on Friday the 4th July US style, with a Home-Made Burgers evening. What's more - we'll throw in a free bottle of 'Bud' (for over 18s) to complete the all American experience.

Next weekend is looking good ~ not only for our Burger Evening, but it's the Church Stretton Ale Trail and we also have Rob Chapman performing on Saturday night (5th July). We're also pleased to announce that from the 1st July we'll be members of the Shrewsbury Pub Watch scheme. This is a partnership between a number of bodies, including West Mercia Police, to ensure that pubs are safer and pleasanter for the vast majority of our customers. The small minority involved in anti-social behaviour face being banned from all licensed premises within the scheme.

Many of you will be familiar with the fine walking to be enjoyed in the area and a particular favourite is the walk from Church Stretton to Cardington. A walk authored by Barbara Vickery was recently featured in the Stretton Focus, and we have reproduced the details on a website ~ see below or click here for more information.

Advance information on what is usually a very popular event. On August Bank Holiday Friday we welcome back John Shepherd, Ed Drury, Clare Drury, Laura Shepherd and friends for 'Folk at the Oak' ~ an excellent evening of live music. So lots to look forward to; we hope to see you soon, here at 'The Royal Oak'.

Walk the Walk
Church Stretton to Cardington

If you receive the Stretton Focus, you may have noticed that the April edition featured a walk from Church Stretton to Cardington. Authored by local walker Barbara Vickery with photos by Trevor Halsey and we were pleased to get their permission to reproduce the article on the web. If you want to 'walk the walk' - then click here for Barbara's article and a great walking day out.
