Hi ....Hello, and welcome to the 'Royal Oak' Newsletter. We can't wait to tell you what a great line-up we have arranged for the forthcoming Bank Holiday Weekend! This coming Friday we're expecting a convivial 'join-in' night with our 'Folk at the Oak'; John Shepherd, Ed Drury, Clare Drury, Laura Shepherd and friends will be entertaining us in the traditional way ~ no amps, no fuss, just fine folk music in your local country pub! Music starts at 9pm. On Saturday evening we have that musical king of mirth, Church Stretton's own Ronnie. Tafnatf (the artist formally known as the Fabulous) Ronnie is a popular local act, who has recently recorded his own CD, and is making a welcomed return to 'The Oak'. Again music starts at 9pm.You'd think that with two nights of partying we'd be ready for a rest (well, we probably will) .. but .. that's not stopping us inviting boy racers of all ages and genders from participating in our Scalextric Challenge on Sunday night. Free entry and a prize for the winner! Also, a reminder, that in addition to our traditional hours, we're now serving our full menu on Sunday evenings (7pm - 9pm) and will be open for lunch on Bank Holiday Monday, August the 25th. Looking for something to do on Bank Holiday Monday? For details of the spectacular walk from Church Stretton to Cardington and back - click here. Our news photos this month start with colourful character Geoff Lucas (Strettons' Mr. Ale Trail) visiting us during the event accompanied by (minded by?) Freda. We had a busy and good humoured Ale Trail and would like to thank Royal Oak firm favourite Rob Chapman for entertaining us on the Saturday night. Hopefully the event will be as financially successful as last years; after which £1,200 raised by the event was donated to local charities. Our final news photo shows the glorious display outside the pub with our troughs and baskets adding a splash of local colour. Maybe not Flower Show standards, but what could be pleasanter than to rest awhile amongst the blooms in summers last fling? We hope to see you soon, down at 'The Royal Oak'. .... Steve & Eira |
