Madge and Richard Knight

Madge and Richard Knight

Hi ....

If you're like the Landlord, procuring that special and unusual Valentines gift is somewhat of a last minute affair! But, 'don't panic', as it says on the back of a well-known hitch-hikers guide, because the most romantic way to start Valentines' Day is with a Champagne Breakfast at The Royal Oak. Don't leave it until the very last minute though, ring now for your reservation.

Our news pictures this month mainly concern goings-on at our Burns Weekend. Needless to say, the offer on Malt Whisky was popular (if not that photogenic), but our photos concern the arrival of that mythical beast, the haggis (presented by Eira) followed by its dispatch at the hand of John McMillan. Our third photo is of Cardington couple Richard and Madge Knight enjoying a meal at 'The Oak' on the occasion of their 69th wedding anniversary ~ congratulations to Richard and Madge!

What else is brewing? Well, if you need a remedy for those winter blues why not make a date to join our next 'Folk in the Oak' night on Friday 27th February. Regulars know what to expect ~ a great atmosphere, good fun and the liveliest of entertainment.

Have you ever complained about the bland excuse for beef that cowers under the cellophane at certain supermarkets? Mass produced meat is reared quickly, killed young and generally not matured for any reasonable length of time. Well ... that's not us, and on Saturday evening the 7th March we have something a little special ~ our Rare Breed Night featuring mature Welsh Black Sirloin Steaks. See below for more details.

We're still running with our great value Winter Warmers menus. Two courses for £9.50 or three for £11.50 available lunchtimes and evenings, Tuesday through to Saturday. See our February menu below. Also we'll have a range of Pancake Specials on Shrove Tuesday 24th February. Mmmm ... sweet or savoury pancakes; have two and become a serial crepist ;-)

That's all for now ... we both hope to see you soon, down at The Royal Oak.

Folk in the Oak

'Folk in the Oak'
Friday 27th February from 9pm

  • When did you last have a GREAT NIGHT OUT?

  • CONVIVIAL company?

  • FANTASTIC atmosphere?

  • Be entertained the TRADITIONAL way?

Kick off your shoes and tap those toes ~ it's more homespun musical magic from our regular 'Folk in the Oakers' ~ John Shepherd, Ed Drury, Clare Drury, Laura Shepherd and their many friends. If you've been before you'll know what to expect ~ a great atmosphere, good fun and the liveliest of entertainment.

Rare Breed Steak Night

What's so special about rare breeds?
Ultimately, their taste. Because they don't conform to the supermarket demand for bland, uniform meat, they have distinctive, satisfying flavours and eating quality.

The Welsh Black is a native British breed descended from cattle of Pre-Roman Britain in the rough mountain and hill country of Wales and is one of the oldest pure breeds of cattle in the world.

On Saturday Evening the 7th March we're offering this succulent, certified Welsh Black Sirloin Steak sourced from our butcher Bert Butler of Condover. Hung for 28 days and expertly cooked to your liking for the same price as our normal sirloin!

8oz £13.95   16oz £18.95

Prize Draw ....

On Thursday 12th February, local Julian Hudson drew a name out of the bowl on our bar. Last month's prize was a case of Magners Cider Light and our lucky winner is Derek Brown. Congratulations Derek, your cider awaits your collection from the bar.

Our second photo shows John Corfield collecting his bottle of Taylors Special Reserve Port, which was won in the December Draw. It makes a change for John to be in the picture as he's usually taking them for the South Shropshire Journal. If you want to be our Newsletter star don't forget to add your name to our bowl each month to be entered into the draw. This month's draw is for a case of Budweiser Beer (10 x 330ml).

Make sure you're in it to win it!
