Hi ....

Hello, and a belated Happy New Year, although it seems that the festivities were quite a while back now! Some reminders of Christmas Past in this Newsletter though, with our news photos showing our holiday entertainers ... and two merry punters!

Firstly, we tried not to capture Rob Chapman in his signature pose of eyes closed and mouth open ~ but did we succeed? At least we included his partner, delightful Wendy on the shot. We also had a great New Years Eve with local father and daughter duo Stacy and Rolly Hall. Thanks to all our Christmas entertainers for bringing so much pleasure to our events. Last but not least our two merry punters - we had many good photos but chose festive Sam Hartley and Tim Hatton ~ sharing a cracker!

If you appreciate a good malt whisky don't miss this weekend at 'The Oak'. Sunday night is Burns Night and is the 250th anniversary of Robert Burns's birth. To celebrate we're serving Haggis on Saturday and Sunday evening ~ and on Saturday the Haggis will be piped-in and toasted in the traditional manner. To complement this we've got a wide range of malt whiskies at the special price of £1.50 per 35ml 'dram'.

How are you treating your loved one on Valentines Day ... card, box of chocolates, bunch of flowers? Why not blow his or her socks off with a luxury Valentines Breakfast ~ mmm, Champagne and Smoked Salmon! It's the present with a difference ~ our personal service ~ at £25 / couple by advanced reservation.

Other events planned for February include new dishes on our popular, recession busting Winter Warmer Menu, Pancake Specials on Shrove Tuesday and, later in the month, 'Folk in the Oak'. Further details of all these events are given below.

Apologies if you received two Newsletters last month ~ they were so keen to reach you that part of the herd escaped early. This new fangled technology ~ we might have to bring those pigeons back now that the shooting season's almost over! Anyway, enough of this technical banter ~ time for a drink ~ we both hope to see you soon, down at 'The Royal Oak'.

Prize Draw ....

On Thursday 22nd January, Chef Peter Bright drew a name out of the bowl on our bar watched by Landlady Eira. Last month's prize was a bottle of Taylors Special Reserve Port. The lucky winners are John and Doris Corfield. Congratulations John and Doris, your port awaits your collection from the bar.

Our second photo shows Rolly Hall collecting the case of Becks Beer on behalf of Rita Hall, which was won in the November Draw. Rolly took the opportunity to steal a kiss from Landlady Eira! Wow ... prizes ... kisses ... just don't forget to add your name to our bowl each month to be entered into the draw. This month's draw is for a case of Magners Cider Light (24 x 330ml).
