Hi ....We hope that we find you in good spirits as we welcome you to this month's Newsletter! Talent can be national, or even international, as we've seen in the recent Olympics, but what a joy to find it amongst ones neighbours! We're hugely pleased to be welcoming our neighbour Rolly Hall, from Gretton, and his daughter Stacy to perform here this coming Friday night (the 12th). Many of you will know Rolly and Stacy, who have played here before, albeit a fair while back, and we hope that you can join us for what we're sure will be one of those special Royal Oak evenings! Talking of special evenings, we had just one of those when we were entertained by our 'Folk at the Oak' musicians John Shepherd, Ed Drury, Clare Drury, Laura Shepherd and their numerous friends (news photo 1). A big thanks also to Ronnie (photo 2), seen somewhat overwhelmed by party goers, who provided the second part of our bank holiday entertainment. We were pleased with the turn-out for our Bank Holiday Scalextric Challenge, where twenty entrants did fast and furious battle to become our Scalextric champion ~ but only one could succeed and that was Tom Richards, seen here (photo 3) receiving his prize from Landlady Eira. There's still time to sign up for our Hobson's Brewery Trip a week next Tuesday (16th) ~ just cross the Landlords palm with a crisp £5 note, to cover the cost of transport, and your trip to brewing paradise is assured :-) Lots going on this month with the kick-off of this seasons darts and dominoes fixtures. Also, as the nights draw in we're looking forward to Autumnal activities, with October's Harvest Festival (17th Oct) and Harvest Auction (19th Oct). We're also planning our Christmas menus and entertainment, but more details about those next month. To keep the party mood going through October we're please to welcome Ellesmere duo Nick and Felicity Jane aka Father of the Bride, who will be appearing here on Friday 24th October. We hope you enjoy the rest of the Newsletter and hope to see you soon, here at 'The Royal Oak'. .... Steve & Eira |

Father
of the Bride Father
of the Bride is a rock and pop duo formed in 2006. Nick
has performed in bands since his teenage years, notably showband Absolute
Beginners which boasted the late, great jazz pianist Andy Leake,
and Misdemeana with renowned local guitar hero Mark Williams,
now with The News. Nick currently lists his occupations as
Electronics Engineer and Wannabe Rockstar! His skills on guitar and keyboards
are mixed with powerful vocals to produce a great sound. Felicity
Jane turns out mostly to shake her maracas and tickle the odd
ivory.

Prize
Draw .... On Tuesday the 9th September, Janice Manning drew a name out of the bowl on our bar for our August prize of a case of Gaymers Pear Cider. The lucky winner is Anna Jo Bright. Congratulations Anna, your Pear Cider awaits your collection from the bar. Our second photo shows July's winner Dave Pickard collecting his case of Stella Artois whilst enjoying a drink after bell-ringing practice. Dave's the one on the left, jealously guarding his prize from thirsty Arthur Stokes, who is keen to sample the stuff! An altogether easier way of bagging a prize is to leave your name and email address in our bowl on the bar to be entered into our monthly draw. This months draw is for ten bottles of Budweiser Beer. Make
sure you're in it to win it! |
