Lamb off the Menu?

Hi ....

We had a great St. George's Celebration - despite being closed on the Monday. Our St. George's Eve Quiz was well supported, with Jim Gibson's team collecting the honours (and the gallon of ale). Ale also flowed at our 'Best of English' Party ~ and our first news piccy shows Ben and Sharon, entering into the party spirit on the night!

Other highlights this month included the return of The Melomanics Duo on the 7th ~ thanks for the entertainment guys, but we still want to see you wearing those stilts in the pub! Also, our visit to Hereford Races on the 3rd. of May, and we'll include some photos of that jaunt in our next Newsletter.

Well, the good news is that we managed to get ex-Landlord (of 'The Oak') David Baugh pulling pints again on a recent visit ~ the bad news is that he only pulled his own! David is back in the country for a couple of months, and we send best wishes to Christine who we understand is recovering well from recent surgery. Our third news picture shows the annual sight of the sheep and new lambs being run past the pub on their way up to one of the local farms. The lamb just doesn't come any fresher than this ~ although it's probably a good job that they couldn't read our Specials Board on the way past!

Talking of meat - we've designed this months food specials night for those with 'healthy appetites'. Desperate Dan's 'Get Stuffed' Night (23rd. May) is not for the faint hearted!. Just extra large portions at our reasonable, standard prices - see below for further details. We've also got a couple of Dominoes Specials; we're hosting the final of the Bob Bromley Cup (between the Church Stretton Club and Horseshoes Dorrington) on the 17th, followed by our own in-house Knock-Out Tournament a week later on the 24th. On the following weekend we'll be celebrating two years at 'The Royal Oak' with music from favourite Rob Chapman on the 26th and our fun 'Scalectrix Challenge' on the 27th. Doesn't time fly .....

Thanks to Terry Haunch who took our header picture, showing the banks down from Gretton to 'The Oak' glorious with Daffs.

Scalectrix Challenge

Sunday Evening - 27th May

For a bit of Sunday Night fun, we're going to dust off the old Scalectrix - come down and try your hand - even bring your own cars. We'll kick off at 8pm with Practice Sessions, Time Trials at 9pm for your grid position, with a Knock-Out at 10pm. Costs nothing to enter - we'll even throw in a prize!

Prize Draw

On Sunday the 6th May, Chris Maydew drew a name out of our bowl, watched by barmaid Jade Horler. April's lucky winner was Evan Grant. Congratulations Evan, your prize of two bottles of Hardy's wine (a 2003 VR Shiraz and a Nottage Hill Chardonnay) awaits your collection from the bar.

Our second photo shows March's winner, local Anna Bright, when she called in to collect her bottle of port. Well done Anna, we hope that you enjoyed your port!

Commiserations everyone else - but why not drop your details in again to be entered into this months draw. We draw every month from those names left in the bowl on the bar during the period since the last draw, so don't forget to re-enter your name on your next visit to 'The Oak'. May's prize is for a case of Budweiser Beer (20 x 300ml).

Make sure you're in it to win it!!
