Harvest Auction

Harvest Auction
(see 'news in brief')

Hi ....

In this edition - why is Steve looking so glum? Is it because he's just turned 50 or is he selling beer at the price your father used to pay (see details of our Good Pub Guide 25th Anniversary Bash below)?

A big thanks to Rob Chapman, who entertained us so well on the 9th - even to the encore, which was much appreciated by all of Rob's new fans! Robs mix of music and lively style went down very well at 'The Oak'. To see pictures of the event, click here.

It seems far too early to be mentioning the 'C' word in September, but folk are already enquiring about our ?hristmas menu - see below for more details.

We've got great, live October music lined up for you, with acoustic folk musician Josie Whittington on Saturday the 7th. and popular music from Tony Hughes on Saturday the 28th.

Thanks to Dave Kelly-Durrant for our 'banner' photo - taken just the other day in the early morning September sun. Click here to see the whole picture.

Also, next month, the return of our Curry Night on Wednesday the 18th. So, there's lots going on, and we both hope to see you soon, down at 'The Royal Oak'.

New Faces ...

It's the end of the summer and some of our regular staff are departing to university, so we though we'd introduce some of the new faces that you'll be seeing around the place. First of all, we'd like to thank all those who are treading pastures new, and wish them 'all the best' in their future education.

However, we are delighted to be strengthening our team with some 'new talent'. On the right is Andy Walker, previously at The Swan at Frodesley, who is joining Eira, Pete and the rest of the team in the kitchen. On the lower left we have Jade Horler from Church Preen. Jade has previously worked for us

as a waitress and is now full time in the bar and kitchen.

On the right (left of picture) we have Kim Bywater from Acton Burnell, who literally had to wrestle her bar job from 'soon to be CSI expert' Fliss (a black belt may have been more useful on this occasion).

Prize Draw

On Sunday 24th. September, Sandra Tipton drew a name out of the bowl for our two bottles of wine, watched by Jade. The lucky winner was Nigel Smith. Congratulations Nigel, your wine awaits your collection from the bar.

Commiserations everyone else - but why not drop your details in again to be entered into next months draw for a bottle of Warre's Late Bottled Vintage 1999 port.

News in Brief ....

  • We were recently at the Stretton Hall Hotel to participate in the presentation of charity cheques for the monies raised by the 'Ale Trail'. The County Air Ambulance and Stretton's Mayfair Centre each received £500, whilst Hope House Hospice received £170.63; that being the money collected in the 12 participating pubs during the event.

  • Whilst on the subject of collections, Richard Knight, the local collection coordinator for the County Air Ambulance, tells us that with the contents of our last collection box (a sum of £50.15) the total amount collected on the bar at The Royal Oak now exceeds £1,000.

  • The winner of our Dominoes Knockout, held on the 7th September, was John Griffiths with Gerald Hayley as runner up. There were 16 entrants and an enjoyable evening was had by all.

  • The amount raised by the Harvest Auction, held on the 24th. September, totalled £380. The proceeds will be split between St. James Church Cardington and local charities. Thank you to all who came and donated so generously to these worthy causes.
