2CV at New Year

2CV on New Years Eve

Piping in the Haggis

Piping in the Haggis on Burns Night

Hi ....

We're a little late with the January Newsletter, but we've had a busy month ~ it seems ages since we saw in the New Year, when we were so excellently entertained by '2CV'. We've kicked off our Winter Quiz season in January, which also continues through February and March ~ it's free to enter and your team could win a Gallon of Ale!. We were especially pleased to have John McMillan piping in the haggis on Burns night; the Haggis being formally addressed with all proper respect before being stabbed with John's ceremonial 'sgian dubh'. Also, a big 'well done' to Chris Maydew, who was sheared for charity here at 'The Oak' last week, raising a magnificent amount. See the full story below, along with the 'before' and 'after' pictures.

This month we'll be offering our special 'lovers' Valentines Menu, on Wednesday the 14th, at the special price of £9.95 for two courses or £11.95 for three courses (booking is recommended). This months Quiz Nights are also on Wednesday the 14th and on the 28th. More details of both these events are given below.

We hear that snow's due this week ~ this month's title photo was taken here at around this time last year. But don't worry, the roads will be gritted (thanks to our proximity to Boultons Coaches) and the log fire will be burning! We hope to see you soon, here at 'The Royal Oak' ...

Country Pursuits

It's always a pleasure to host country events at 'The Oak'. We were doubly lucky during January with visits from both The Shropshire Beagles (on New Years Day) and The Wheatland, who breakfasted here in during the month.

Well done to Chris Maydew, who sacrificed his Facial Fur to a good cause … raising over £600 for Breast Cancer Research when he was sheared for charity, here at ‘The Royal Oak’ on Tuesday 30th January.
Quiz Night

Calling all Boffins (and lesser mortals) !!

Our popular Pub Quiz will be back at 9:00pm on Wednesday the 14th and 28th February (and the 14th & 28th of March). Entry is FREE!! Why not get together a team of four and take some free beer off the Landlord! This month your quiz masters will be Brian Tripp and Steve.

Quiz Prize - A Gallon of Ale
(or two bottles of House Wine)

Prize Draw

On Thursday the 1st February, Landlord Steve drew a name out of the bowl for our bottle of Bells whisky, watched by Jade and photographed by Richard Peene (it's usually Steve who's behind the camera ~ for aesthetic reasons ;-) ). January's lucky winner was James Preece. Congratulations James, your whisky awaits your collection from the bar.

Our second photo shows December's winner Daz Boardman, when he called in with Tracy and mother Joyce to collect his prize. Well done Daz, pictured here with Joyce, we hope that you enjoy the port!

Commiserations everyone else - but why not drop your details in again to be entered into this months draw. We draw every month from those names left in the bowl on the bar during the period since the last draw, so don't forget to re-enter your name on your next visit to 'The Oak'. February's prize will be for a bottle of Taylor's LBV 2001 port.

Make sure you're in it to win it!!
