Beach Party

Royal Oak Beach Party

Wish you were here!

Hi ....

Well, the summer is racing on, with the fine days a bit of a distant memory at the moment ~ our memory of the Beach Party is also a little vague (must have been the cocktails) but we'd like to thank all of you who joined us for fun on the promenade! If you'd like a reminder, or a little peek if you didn't make it, then just click here.

We very much regret that Liza Fitzgibbon didn't appear on the 12th. due to a breakdown on her trip up from London. Her gearbox failed and she had to be towed home! We're hoping for more success in September when we welcome local musician Rob Chapman on Saturday the 9th with his own brand of folk and contemporary music. Rob is from Oswestry, so if his car breaks down we'll pick him up ourselves!

What else this coming month? Well, we'll be squeezing into our school uniforms on Wednesday the 13th September for our 'Back to School' Specials night. Dominoes and Darts kick off again with our Dominoes Knockout on the 7th September. We're hosting the regular, annual Harvest Auction on the 24th; please support it as all proceeds go to worthy local causes. Hope to see you soon, down at 'The Royal Oak'.

Harvest Auction - 24th September

The annual Harvest Auction will start at around 2:30pm on Sunday the 24th September - following the morning's Harvest Festival service at St. James Church, Cardington. Come along and bid for the harvest fare - not only will you be getting first rate local produce, but also supporting good causes as the proceeds are split; with half going to St. James Church funds and half to local charities.

Our photo shows local auctioneer Paul Stephens presiding at last years auction.

Prize Draw ....

Ooops .... well, this months prize draw didn't quite go to plan, as the email address pulled out by waitress Francesca Roots on Sunday the 27th of August turned out to be a dud! Fran is shown drawing the lucky card watched by Eira. Anyway, Fran drew again on Bank Holiday Monday and the lucky winner of the bottle of Tanners Champagne wine is Trevor Davies. Congratulations to Trevor, your bottle is waiting for you on your next visit to 'The Oak'.

Here we see last month's prize winners, David and Sarah Kelly-Durrant, accepting their bottles of wine from Eira (looking nice and bronzed after their recent holiday). Notice Eira's tight grip on the bottle, maybe suggesting a little reluctance to let go!

Anyway, next months prize draw is also for two bottles of wine (a Wolf Blass Yellow Label Cab Sauv and a Hardys Nottage Hill Chardonnay). All names submitted during the month will be included - if you're already on our list just drop you name into the bowl on the bar again on your next visit to be included in our draw.

News in Brief ....

  • Congratulations to Ben McMillan for winning last months 'Hearts of Oak' competition! In Ben's words "the heart of oak is on the arm of the bench that is backed up against the wall, at the big table beside the window, just before you go up into the restaurant". Also they are in the arms of a similar bench located at the first table on the left as you enter the restaurant.
  • Congratulations to The Royal Oak A Dominoes Team for coming runners-up in the recent Cancer Research Campaign Charity knockout played at Church Stretton Men's Club.
  • This year is the 25th Anniversary Edition of the Good Pub Guide, with the 2007 edition being published on Thursday the 28th September. The Royal Oak is one of only 66 pubs across the country to have appeared as a main entry in every edition. Look out for a special event to coincide with this - more details in our next Newsletter.

  • The Darts and Dominoes season kicks off in September with 'The Oak' fielding two teams for each in the Church Stretton league. We always welcome new players and anyone interested can contact Steve or Eira on the number below for further details.
